There must be a limit to the number of times that a person can change their name right? Well, actually no. As long as every time that you change your name it is a “genuine” name change, you can change the way that people call you as much and as often as you want.
What classifies as a “genuine” name change?
For a name change to be genuine it must follow three things. Firstly, you must intend to use and become known by your new name for all purposes. Secondly, all of your official documents and records must be updated to reflect your new name. Last but not least, you must have good intentions when changing your name (making sure to not do so for fraudulent or illegal reasons). What this means is that although there may be no limit to the number of times you are able to change your name, it may turn out to be a rather large hassle.
Despite changing your name many times being a bit of a process, it means that no matter what your reason may be, you can change your name. For example, some people change their name for a bet or because they feel like changing their name to something silly like “Happy Birthday” or “See you again”. Now, as lovely as these names are, HM Passport Office will reject your application unless you can prove you intend to use the name for all purposes, by providing additional documentary evidence. So although you may really like your new and unusual name, you may need another Deed Poll to change it back to your original, or maybe to choose another wonderful new name.
Bets and exotic name choices aren’t the only reason that you may want to change your name more than once. You may have had multiple marriages and divorces and want to change your name to or from a new or old partner’s name. With no limit on the number of Deed Polls you can have, doing this is not an issue
So, no matter your reason or the number of times that you have done it before, we will gladly help you change your name. We’ll make sure that you can feel like you with a name of your choice.
